Discover Xàtiva and its famous castle
Xàtiva is synonymous with abundance: due to its rich history and its enormous cultural and gastronomic influence.
It is a small city, with almost 30,000 inhabitants, perhaps little known internationally, and even in Spain itself, but it hides legends and historical treasures that marked life on the peninsula.
Cradle of the Borja Popes, lineage of culture and knowledge has seen numerous intellectuals and poets pass through and where the son of the famous Carthaginian general Aníbal Barca was born.
Itinerary
- At 10:00 a.m.: we will discover the Castle of Xàtiva
It is located at the top of the mountain (we do not recommend going up on foot, the options are your own vehicle, taxi or little train; it takes an hour to walk).
This fortress allows you to enjoy some infinite panoramas and also almost three thousand years of history, a castle through which the armies of Aníbal Barca and his elephants have passed, a key piece during the reconquest with King Jaume I the conqueror and who used its dungeons as a state prison.
- At 11:30 a.m.: we will visit the old town and the thousand fountains
We will begin the guided tour of Xàtiva next to the Fuente del León, one of the “1000 fountains” from which you can drink while walking through the narrow streets of its old town.
Suddenly we will arrive at the Collegiate Church of Santa María, one of the largest churches in Spain and where we will talk about the Borja popes, who were born in this locality and ended up being one of the most historic Valencian characters.
After crossing the market square we will go to the Casa de l’Ensenyança fine arts museum, to understand the destruction of Xàtiva in 1707 in front of the painting of King Felipe V punished upside down.
- End of the visit at 1:30 p.m.
Moment in which we can return to the destination or taste the traditional gastronomy of Xàtiva, with a casserole of baked rice and arnadí or almoixàvena as typical sweets*
(*our transfer leaves at the end of the tour, around 1:30 p.m., if you decide to stay to taste the local food, the return is the responsibility of the client, there is a direct train to Valencia with Renfe)

1.- Guided tour only
You can book only the guided tour and go to the meeting point to join the group, it lasts 3:30 hours and starts at 10:00.
Includes tickets.
We will spend a morning exploring the second largest old town in the Valencian Community and prepare to “storm” the castle.
2.- Guided tour with transportation
Transfer from Valencia to Xàtiva + a complete guided tour with an official local guide.
Departure from Valencia at 08:30 in the morning.
We pick you up and take you back to Valencia.

SCHEDULE:
From Tuesday to Sunday. With pick-up starting at 8:30-9:00 a.m., without pick-up at the castle of Xàtiva at 10:00 a.m. or at the Fuente del León at 12:00 p.m.
(In summer it may vary due to high temperatures, we usually do the castle first and then visit the city, we will contact you once we obtain the formalized reservation)

ITINERARY TYPE:
Not adapted. The castle of Xàtiva is staggered and with slopes (not suitable for baby carriages or wheelchairs).
A vehicle is necessary to travel to the castle. (in the excursion is included, in the modality of only guided tour no)
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Comfortable footwear.
LUNCH OPTION
For the excursion option from Valencia: once the guided tour is finished, we will have the option of eating in Xàtiva (returning to Valencia on your own, unless it is a private excursion) or returning to Valencia to eat (estimated arrival: 14:30), just eating We will return to Valencia thus ending our services.
The ascent to the castle by transport is only included with the excursion to Xativa, during the guided tour the transport to the castle of Xàtiva is at the expense of each assistant (taxi, tourist train…)
Children under 7 years old can not make the excursion. We do not have infant or child seats (depending on height: 135 cms).
