This blend of eras is still visible today in various parts of the neighbourhood. One of the best examples is the <strong>Valldigna Portal<\/strong>, an arch opened up in 1400 in the old Muslim city wall to connect the Christian quarter with the Moorish quarter. Other remains of the Islamic city wall can also be seen nearby, such as those in the Plaza del \u00c1ngel and on Calle Mare Vella.<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><h3>Much more than just history: squares, streets and local life<\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Part of the charm of El Carmen lies simply in exploring it on foot. <strong>Plaza del Tossal, Calle Caballeros, Plaza del Carmen<\/strong> or the narrow streets surrounding the Portal de Valldigna are some of the places well worth including on your walk.
