Discover Peñíscola from Valencia: stroll through its historic centre, visit the Castillo del Papa Luna and enjoy some free time overlooking the Mediterranean.
A castle overlooking the sea, streets steeped in history, and time to enjoy Peñíscola at your own pace.
We set off from Valencia towards Peñíscola, one of the jewels of the Costa del Azahar. After a journey of less than two hours, we’ll arrive at this walled town that seems to float above the Mediterranean.
We’ll start with a guided tour of the historic centre. We’ll stroll through narrow alleyways, past white-washed façades, small shops and viewpoints overlooking the sea, whilst discovering the stories and cultures that have left their mark on the town.
We’ll follow the route of its Renaissance walls, built during the reign of Philip II, and see such iconic spots as the Casa de las Conchas. We’ll also discover a very special fact: Peñíscola was the setting for several scenes from Game of Thrones, where it became the city of Meereen.
The highlight of the trip will be a visit to the Pope Luna’s Castle, with admission included. This Templar fortress stands on a rocky outcrop by the sea and was once the residence of Benedict XIII, known as ‘Pope Luna’. We will discover its history, its rooms and the panoramic views that make this castle one of the most recognisable symbols of the Valencian Community.
Afterwards, you’ll have some free time to enjoy Peñíscola however you like: sampling the local cuisine, strolling along the beach, taking photos or losing yourself once again in its old town before heading back to Valencia.

It’s a full-day excursion, from 8.00 am to 8.30 am. We’ll have lunch in Peñíscola (at your own expense, although we can help you make a booking if you’d like) and after lunch we’ll head back to Valencia.
Yes, although it is worth bearing in mind that the old town of Peñíscola has steps and slopes. It is not recommended for people with reduced mobility or with injuries that prevent them from walking normally.
