24 hours in Valencia: the essentials

plaza de la virgen valencia

We only have 24 hours in Valencia. What can we do to not miss anything?

Here we tell you everything you have to see if you spend one day in this wonder of the Mediterranean known as: the healthiest city in the world and the Capital of Design 2022.

, so read on!

8:30 a.m. arrival in the city

We will start the visit from Xàtiva street: one of the most important streets in the city and where you can see the modernist-style North Station and the Valencia Bullring.

We will continue along Av. Marqués de Sotelo towards the Plaza del Ayuntamiento: this is where life happens for Valencians, the big fairs, markets and significant events are held.

You will be able to see three important buildings: the Town Hall itself and its enormous balcony; the post office building and the Mercantile Athenaeum (go up to the top for some of the best views of the square).
We will continue towards the Plaza del Mercado or also called Plaza de las Brujas, full of color and life. On your right, winding streets full of shops and bars begin to appear that lead us to the Carmen neighborhood, but first we will enter the Central Market.

The Central Market, the heart of the city, is the one with the most stalls selling fresh products in all of Europe.

10:00 a.m. enjoy an authentic Valencian lunch

Since we are inside the market, we are going to try a typical Valencian lunch (called the esmorzaret) with the freshest products in the city in Central Bar.

11:00 a.m. Valencia has to be walked around

This time we will continue towards the Lonja de la Seda, we will continue our journey towards the Plaza Redonda and we will see the narrowest façade of the city.

We will arrive at the renovated Plaza de la Reina and we will have in front of us the imposing Cathedral of Santa María, where the Holy Chalice is hidden.
We can enter the Cathedral and climb Miguelete, 207 steps along a beautiful spiral staircase that gives you a panoramic view of the city.

We will go out to the Plaza de la Virgen, which with a mix of pastel tones and medieval aesthetics, it will seem that we have just been transported back in time.
We will continue towards the Serranos Towers, the old city wall.

*extra: if you want before eating, visit the wonderful Valencian Sistine Chapel

2:30 p.m. it’s time to eat good rice

Very close to the Torres, we will find the La Cigrona restaurant, awarded for its rice dishes!

4:30 p.m. relax in the Turia gardens

After a good Valencian meal, it’s time to continue with our route.
The best way to wash down your meal and enjoy the afternoon is to take a walk through the Turia Gardens (an old bed of the Turia River converted today into a park that divides the city in two) until you reach the City of Arts and Sciences. (you can also do it by bicycle or segway)

5:15 p.m. the City of Arts and Sciences

Visit the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences from the outside.

7:00 p.m. afternoon and views from Barceló

Just a few meters from the Turia gardens, you will find the Barceló hotel, which has one of the most spectacular terraces to watch the sunset and have a cocktail in the entire city.

8:00 p.m. return to the center, Ruzafa

To end our day we cannot miss the picturesque neighborhood of Ruzafa: with its colorful houses, its great gastronomic offer and lively and youthful atmosphere.

Dinner and tapas: Amor Amargo (a esquisit winery), La Trinchera (informal tapas with supreme quality) or Canalla Bistró (restaurant of the great chef Ricard Camarena)

11:00 p.m. night falls in Ruzafa

To enjoy good music and atmosphere after dinner you can’t miss:

Cómic (drinks and good environment)
Ubik (live music,library-bar)
Loco Club (discotheque with live music)
-Café Mercedes Jazz (live jazz music)

End of the day

And this would be the most complete itinerary to get to know the city of Turia in a very express way: discovering the charms of the old town with the contrast of the City of Arts and Sciences and breathing fresh air in the lungs of the city, the gardens of the Turia.
